Measurements of Iceberg Melt Rates Using High?Resolution GPS and Iceberg Surface Scans

چکیده

Increasing freshwater input to the subpolar North Atlantic through iceberg melting can influence fjord-scale basin-scale ocean circulation. However, magnitude, timing, and distribution of this have been challenging quantify due minimal direct observations subsurface geometry melt rates. Here we present novel in situ methods capturing change at high-temporal -spatial resolution using four high-precision GPS units deployed on two large icebergs (>500 m length). In combination with measurements surface geometry, calculate rates between 0.10 0.27 m/d over 9-day survey. These are lower than those proposed previous studies, likely individual geometries calculations. combining these new rate broad spatial coverage remote sensing, better predict impact increasing injection from Greenland Ice Sheet.

Computing Full and Iceberg Datacubes Using Partitions

In this paper, we propose a sound approach and an algorithm for computing a condensed representation of either full or iceberg datacubes. A novel characterization of datacubes based on dimensional-measurable partitions is introduced. From such partitions, iceberg cuboids are achieved by using constrained product linearly in the number of tuples. Moreover, our datacube characterization provides ...

Study of Iceberg BlOA using Scatterometer Data

The Antarctic continent continually releases glacial ice into the ocean in the form of icebergs calving from glaciers and ice shelves. Microwave scatterometers can provide useful information about the spatial and temporal behavior of large icebergs. In this paper, results from the observation of BlOA during 1992-2000, using ERS-1/2 AMI Scatterometer (ESCAT), NASA Scatterometer (NSCAT) and SeaWi...

Efficient Computing of Iceberg Queries Using Quantiling

Iceberg queries have been recently identified as important queries for many applications. These queries can be characterized by their huge input-small output. The iceberg refers to the input, and the tip of it refers to the output. We present an efficient algorithm for computing an important class of iceberg queries. This algorithm uses a focusing technique for the query result using quantiling...

Computing Iceberg Queries Eeciently

Many applications compute aggregate functions over an attribute (or set of attributes) to nd aggregate values above some speci ed threshold. We call such queries iceberg queries, because the number of abovethreshold results is often very small (the tip of an iceberg), relative to the large amount of input data (the iceberg). Such iceberg queries are common in many applications, including data w...

Iceberg-capsize tsunamigenesis

Calving from the floating termini of outlet glaciers and ice shelves is just the beginning of an interesting chain of events that can subsequently have important impacts on human life and property. Immediately after calving, many icebergs capsize (roll over by 90◦) due to the instability of their initial geometry. As icebergs melt and respond to the cumulative effects of ocean swell, they can a...
